Hi, my name is Matthew Tomer and I am currently enrolled as a freshman at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut studying Digital Media and Journalism. I have been creating content since I was a Freshman Middletown High School in Middletown, Connecticut. Creating videos is my favorite thing to do. It allows me to tell a story through the lens of a camera rather than a pencil on paper.
Instead of writing stories, poetry, or articles, I like to express my creativity with a camera. Videos are my creative outlet. It allows me to express things that I am not able to through words. It also allows people to get an insight of who I am as a person and what I am about.
Making videos has brought me many positive things throughout my life. It has helped me to become the person who I am today. Without videos, I would be a lost teenager who doesn’t know what to do. Ever since I picked up a camera, I instantly knew that I wanted to create content and be behind the camera for years to come.
From Nashville, Tennessee to Moscow, Russia, video has taken me all around the world. I have competed in the STN video competition for three years, taking me to places like Anaheim, California, Nashville, Tennessee and Seattle, Washington. While competing in those competitions I learned many things about the wild world of broadcasting and journalism.
The most memorable moment that I was able to experience all because of one video is the time I traveled to Moscow, Russia with three classmates and my teacher. There, we met with Russian counterparts and worked together to create a video series on how sports unite the world and brings everyone together.
Creating content has always been my passion, and I let it guide my way into opening many opportunities for myself. I plan to continue creating content and let it guide me through the journey of life. Videos will continue to allow me to express who I am currently and who I want to be as the years go on.
“Video is universal and allows people around the world to communicate and exchange ideas.“
